Last May Memory Care opened at Davenhill, providing a caring home for eighteen residents with varying stages of dementia and Alzheimer’s. Employing some of the country’s most advanced memory care therapies and technologies, the facility has met with universal acclaim and has led to plans for dedicating another entire floor to Memory Care.
Our Memory Care Open House received highly positive reviews from family members, media and visitors as they experienced the innovative activities and techniques being used to make residents’ live richer and more rewarding. Staff and residents are forming friendships and are particularly enjoying baking in the kitchen as well as painting.
Currently every resident has their own room as well as supervised access to the kitchen, exercise room, state-of-the-art spa room with state-of-the-art massage Sound and Vision Hydro-Therapy tub, the specialized therapy room, living area and laundry room. The floor even has its own family of cats, so anyone can sit and relax with a purring pet in their lap.
The second floor will duplicate all the current therapy and community rooms with the addition of a special solarium for residents from both floors to enjoy, allowing them year-round access to sunlight and the outdoors. The space for this new feature will reduce the number of accommodations from 18 to 16. With a smaller number of residents on each floor, staff can provide each one with more personalized attention and individual support, something many other homes with more people to care aren’t able to deliver.
Memory Lane has been designed to create a comforting home-like environment where each resident feels engaged and valued. Davenhill’s caregivers have received specialized training in a variety of effective therapies and programs that enable them to know each resident better and develop individual care plans for them.
Thanks to the phenomenal staff, Memory Care at Davenhill is proving to be a total success and is leading the way in Canada for this type of specialized facility. Call us to book a tour and see the plans for the next phase of Memory Care.
