Features and Innovative Therapies
Familiar home-like environment
This is a small community of no more than eighteen residents and offers comfortable, secure, home-like living spaces.
Kitchen and dining
All residents share delicious and nutritious meals together prepared by our in-house chef and where appropriate, residents are given tasks that help contribute to the mealtime experience. In addition residents and staff can enjoy baking treats together in the fully operational kitchen.
Circadian rhythm lighting
This innovative lighting therapy installed in all of our common areas supports healthy sleep patterns by adjusting light temperatures and intensity effectively mimicking the sun and directly affecting a person’s mental and physical health. Davenhill will be the first home in Canada to have this lighting system installed.
State-of-the-art pampering spa
A spa with cedar-lined walls, heated towel racks and floors provides maximum comfort. Our hydrotherapy tub uses colour, lighting, music therapy and hydromassage to reduce stress and bring exceptional relaxation.
This room provides Montessori-style therapies such as Gentle Persuasion, Doll Therapy, as well as a variety of sensory stimulation exercises to help residents engage and enjoy life.
Smart home and virtual reality technology
Using Google’s Home and Daydream technologies, our staff are able to engage with residents on a completely different level. We’re playing games, reading poems, telling stories, looking at favourite photos, playing music and visiting far away places that residents have only dreamed of.
By encouraging family and friends to provide photos and music, our staff can get to know who people were before the onset of the disease, which informs the development of individualized care plans for each resident.
Proven to be a calming sensory experience, residents can visit with our three adopted cats to reduce stress at any time.
According to the Alzheimer Society of Canada exercise for someone with dementia is extremely helpful. Our fitness space allows residents to use treadmills and recumbent bicycles under supervision to help burn off the adrenaline produced by stress and frustration. Exercise can also promote feelings of happiness, develop a healthy appetite, increase energy levels and lead to a better night’s sleep.
Living room and TV room
These welcoming, home-like spaces provide opportunities for shared group activities, entertainment and special occasions.
Do you wish you could understand the effects of dementia better? Step into our Virtual Dementia Tour and experience what dementia is like first-hand.
