January is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month — it’s an opportunity to gain understanding and raise awareness of the daily realities of those affected. According to the Mental Commission of Canada, more than 500,000 Canadians are living with dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease. That number is expected to climb to over 900,000 by the year 2031.
Much has yet to be learned about Alzheimer’s disease and how it affects the brain — but one critical thing to acknowledge is that those living with the disease can still live fulfilled lives. This belief is the inspiration behind Davenhill’s memory care expansion, currently underway and scheduled to open in May 2018.
At Davenhill, memory care is about advocacy — discovering innovative ways to help people engage and enjoy the experiences of life within the confines of their disability. To this end, we have studied and researched extensively, engaging with specialists around the world to determine the best approaches to memory care. Our goal is to glean from their experience and introduce unique approaches of our own to become an industry leader in memory care in Toronto.
At Davenhill, we are dedicated to providing a vibrant, engaging community for residents living with Alzheimer’s and various other forms of dementia. More information regarding this new chapter will be shared in the coming months.
